Union Pacific Recently Increased Maximum Speed for Rail Line Segments from Houston to Nome
Spring, Texas, March 20, 2008 – Union Pacific recently increased the maximum train speeds on certain segments of its rail line from Houston to Nome, Texas.
Following Federal Railroad Administration regulations, the railroad gradually increased the maximum train speeds through Ames by 9 miles per hour for Amtrak trains to a maximum of 79 mph and by 10 mph for freight trains to a maximum of 70 mph. Through Dayton, the speeds increased by 10 mph for Amtrak trains to a maximum of 70 mph and by 30 mph for freight trains to a maximum of 70 mph. Through Devers, the speeds increased by 9 mph for Amtrak trains to a maximum of 79 mph and by 10 mph for freight trains to a maximum of 70 mph. Through certain segments of Houston, the speeds increased by 15 mph for Amtrak trains to a maximum of 70 mph and by 30 mph for freight trains to a maximum of 70 mph. Through Liberty, the speeds increased by a range from 5 mph to 40 mph for Amtrak trains to a maximum of 70 mph and by a range from 10 mph to 40 mph to a maximum of 70 mph for freight trains. Through Nome, the speeds increased by 9 mph for Amtrak trains to a maximum of 79 mph and by 10 mph for freight trains to a maximum of 70 mph.
