Union Pacific's 150th Anniversary
Roseville, Calif., September 06, 2012 – Shoshone, Idaho, has been awarded membership in Union Pacific's Train Town USA Registry as part of the railroad's year-long 150th anniversary celebration. The city received an official Train Town USA resolution signed by Union Pacific Chairman Jim Young.
"We are proud to recognize Shoshone as we commemorate our railroad's sesquicentennial celebration and growing up together," said Dan Harbeke, Union Pacific director - Public Affairs for Idaho. "Union Pacific has been part of the country's fabric throughout the railroad's 150-year history. That bond between us and the nearly 7,300 communities we serve continues to strengthen.
"Our shared heritage with Shoshone is a source of pride as we remember our past while serving and connecting our nation for years to come."
Long viewed as the primary railroad connection to the agriculturally-rich Magic Valley, the original town of Shoshone was laid out in 1882 in preparation for construction of the Union Pacific and Oregon Shortline track in the region. Today, Shoshone is an important part of Union Pacific's business in the state of Idaho where Union Pacific serves customers by shipping agricultural products, refrigerated food products, fertilizers, and other commodities.
