Union Pacific Railroad Celebrates 150th Anniversary with City Of Spokane

UP 150 Express Tour Includes Legendary E9 Locomotives and Traveling Museum Car

Spokane, Wash., July 10, 2012 – Union Pacific Railroad welcomed the Spokane community to the Amtrak Depot today to celebrate the railroad's 150TH anniversary as the UP 150 Express continues its excursion through the Pacific Northwest region. Accompanied by the all-new Promontory baggage car, which has been transformed into a state-of-the-art traveling museum, the sparkling E-9 locomotives rolled into Spokane to the delight of children, families, rail enthusiasts and elected officials who were on hand to join the festivities and mark the historic occasion.

"We are excited to be here in Spokane celebrating such a historic moment in Union Pacific history," said Brock Nelson, director, public affairs for Washington, Union Pacific. "Communities like Spokane are a big part of the ongoing success of our company, and we relish the opportunity to celebrate with the community here today."

The festival-like atmosphere created by the E-9 locomotives of UP 150 Express, the locomotive simulators and the Promontory baggage car set the tone for a special presentation made to Mayor David Condon listing Spokane as the newest member of Union Pacific's Train Town USA Registry. And the historic met the futuristic as community members flocked to tour the Promontory baggage car to view the traveling exhibit, which closely replicates the full-scale "Building America" exhibit that opened May 12 at the Union Pacific Railroad Museum in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
