Houston, Texas, June 19, 2013 Union Pacific Railroad is launching a billboard campaign aimed at encouraging Houston area drivers to safely use railroad crossings.
At the center of the campaign are billboards featuring messages that read, "Always expect a train" and "Look Again. Trains travel 41 feet in the blink of an eye." More than 4 million Houston area drivers will view these messages each week during the next six months. The messages will be displayed on 16 billboards located in Houston, Sugar Land and Missouri City, Texas.
"These billboards will alert people to their surroundings and keep them safe around railroad tracks," said Brenda Mainwaring, Union Pacific vice president of Public Affairs-Southern Region. "Trains are operating at all times on railroad tracks, and our No. 1 priority is the safety of our employees and communities."
The billboards will remind drivers to use caution when approaching railroad tracks. Union Pacific encourages drivers and pedestrians to follow all laws regarding grade crossings and railroad safety.
In addition to the billboard campaign, Union Pacific's UP CARES initiative promotes pedestrian and driver safety through a variety of outreach channels:
