Special Locomotive Celebrates the Company’s Support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Omaha, Neb., September 29, 2011 Union Pacific Railroad will display its Pink Ribbon Locomotive, UP No. 7400, Sunday, Oct. 2 during the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® in Omaha. The Honorary Chair for this year's race is Barb Schaefer, Union Pacific's senior vice president-Human Resources.
The locomotive will be displayed across the street from TD Ameritrade Park at the corner of 12th and Cuming streets from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
Created and unveiled last year as a tribute to Union Pacific's support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and the many lives – employees, community members, friends and family – affected by breast cancer, the locomotive has traveled more than 70,000 miles across the UP system. The Pink Ribbon Locomotive has been on display during Susan G. Komen for the Cure® events in North Little Rock Ark., Houston, Sacramento, Calif., Chicago and Los Angeles.
"Union Pacific is proud of our thousands of employees, spearheaded by our professional woman's group LEAD, who have helped raise understanding and funds that go toward breast cancer awareness," said Schaefer.
"It is an honor to be serving as the 2011 Omaha Race for the Cure's Honorary Chair and a privilege to have worked with such a dedicated group of individuals as those affiliated with this Susan G. Komen for the Cure® event," added Schaefer.
The Pink Ribbon Locomotive is one of the newest, most fuel-efficient locomotives in Union Pacific's fleet and is decorated with a pink ribbon graphic on each side of the locomotive.
A very rare honor, Union Pacific has created only 15 commemorative locomotives in its nearly 150-year history.
