BusinessWeek Names Union Pacific One of Best Places to Intern

Omaha, Neb., December 18, 2008 – BusinessWeek, which earlier this year cited Union Pacific as one of the top 50 places to launch a career, has named the company as one of the best places to intern in a report published earlier this month. Union Pacific was ranked No. 33 on the list.

The "Best Places to Intern: 2008" ranking is based on self-reported data from employers, the news magazine's "Best Places to Launch a Career" ranking, and a Universum Communications survey of U.S. undergraduates.

"Union Pacific is dedicated to hiring top talent and our internship program is one of the ways we identify future employees," said Barb Schaefer, senior vice president - Human Resources. "We offer our interns real-world work experiences so they know what to expect from the company. And, we can offer meaningful feedback in terms of their professional development."

With a large number of employees reaching retirement age in the next five years, excellent opportunities exist at Union Pacific for job candidates. The company offers a number of benefits that are attractive to job seekers including tuition reimbursement, competitive benefits and compensation packages, affinity groups, fitness centers, system wide training centers, mentoring and coaching, leadership and development programs, child care and an elder care referral network.

In addition to the BusinessWeek recognitions, GI Jobs, Latina Style, the National Business Group on Health, DMAA: The Care Continuum Alliance, the U.S. Army and the U.S. Department of Defense also have honored Union Pacific.
