Union Pacific Contributes the Equivalent of a Boxcar of Food to Harvesters

Omaha, Neb., December 08, 2008 – Union Pacific Railroad today is helping keep Harvesters - The Community Food Network stocked during these tough economic times by contributing $10,000 to provide 50,000 meals, which is, enough food to fill a boxcar.

"It's during tough times like these, and throughout our history, Union Pacific has assisted the communities we operate in like Topeka to help them through times of need," said Cameron Scott, Union Pacific Railroad's general superintendent - transportation services for the Kansas City Service Unit.

"This generous gift from Union Pacific couldn't come at a more critical time," said Karen Haren, president and CEO of Harvesters, the food bank serving most of northeast Kansas. "The number of people seeking emergency food assistance at area food pantries and soup kitchens is increasing during these difficult economic times. This gift will help us ensure that we have food available when people turn to us for help."

Union Pacific's $10,000 contribution will be used by Harvesters to provide 50,000 meals, which is enough food to fill more than 1,200 grocery cart baskets.
