Track Improvements Planned Through Jefferson City

Union Pacific Spends Nearly $70 Million on Track Maintenance Over Two Years between Kansas City and St. Louis

Omaha, Neb., January 23, 2008 – Union Pacific Railroad will spend $1.5 million this year on track improvements between Bonnots Mill, Mo., and Jefferson City.

When the project is complete, crews will have removed and installed 5,500 ties and spread 13,100 tons of rock ballast to ensure a stable roadbed. Work began on this project January 9 and is scheduled to be completed by mid-February.

Union Pacific has spent $68 million on track improvement projects on its lines between Kansas City and St. Louis since 2006. Crews have replaced 325,600 ties, spread 400,000 tons of rock ballast to ensure a stable roadbed and replaced the surfaces in 334 road crossings.

These improvements are part of the more than $1 billion Union Pacific is planning to spend in 2008 to maintain its track across its more than 32,300-mile system.
