UP's Lynden Tennison, senior vice president and chief information officer, accepts the Technology Leader of the Year" award at the 2013 Infotech Business Conference, April 16 at CenturyLink Center in Omaha.

The AIM Institute named Union Pacific's Lynden Tennison "Technology Leader of the Year" at the organization's 2013 Infotec business conference. Tennison, senior vice president and chief information officer, was selected based on his national reputation as a visionary information technology thought leader, his contributions to AIM Institute initiatives, and his commitment to his community and his profession.

The AIM Institute is a regional Omaha-based not-for-profit consortium of businesses, colleges/universities, secondary schools and economic development partners. AIM empowers communities, organizations and individuals through information technology.

During Tennison's eight years of service on the AIM Institute board of directors, including three as board chairman, he has focused on programs that attract youth to IT and engineering professions, as well as efforts to rebrand AIM and expand its offerings nationally.

In his CIO position, Tennison is responsible for organizing and managing the development, implementation and operation of Union Pacific's information and telecommunications technologies. As part of his Technology Leader of the Year recognition, the AIM Institute highlighted Tennison's leadership of the IT Department using video game simulation technology for employee safety training, his "entrepreneurial spirit" and his commitment to employee development.

Awarded annually, AIM Institute's "Technology Leader of the Year" award recognizes an outstanding executive-level leader of a technology company or a technology division/department who strives to provide effective, efficient, high-quality service to internal and external clients; acts as an innovative change agent; inspires, motivates and "grows" people; and accomplishes the company's mission, giving outstanding return on technology investment.
