Balancing work and family is important to both employees and Union Pacific. To accomplish this, the railroad provides flexibility in benefits and alternate work arrangements including:
Rest Easy
Union Pacific has contracted with Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) to provide Rest Easy, an in-home alternative for dependent care when an emergency arises and employees need someone to care for their children or older dependents.
Rest Easy was developed to help meet the demands of work and home when the unexpected happens – perhaps school closes or the regular caregiver is sick – and the backup plan doesn't work.
A coordinator is available to assist employees 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will work with UP employees to determine if a trained and experienced professional can care for the dependent. Professional help can be in the employee's home within two hours after the call is placed.
Life Care Services
Child Care and Elder Care Information, Education and Referral Services are designed to help management employees with prenatal planning, adoption preparation and locating child care, adult care and temporary or specialized care for dependents of all ages.
Employee Assistance
Union Pacific recognizes that poor and declining job performance may be caused by personal problems that can be treated if there is competent intervention. The UP Employee Assistance Program is a confidential program designed to assist employees and their family members with a variety of situations and personal problems.
