How to Consolidate a Shipment
Combining Material
- Combine all material for any UPRR location (excluding UPS)
- If over 12000 lbs. truckload rules apply.
- Do not hold any freight for more than a day.
- Each order must be kept separate and contain a packing list. Example: If you have two UPS orders and one pallet of LTL going to different locations, do not mix the UPS orders in with the pallet of LTL.
Bill of Lading Preparation
- Fill out only one bill of lading per day.
- Consignee field should read:
Union Pacific Railroad
% (fill in consolidation name)
(consolidation address)
- Commodity field should show the combined orders.
Example:
2 plt widgets 800 lbs. (2 orders) 1 bdl railroad equip 360 lbs. (1 order) 2 ctns railroad equip 30 lbs. (1 order) Total: 5 pcs 1190 lbs. (4 orders)
- The ultimate destination must be shown in the body of the bill of lading. In the case of multiple shipments where there is not sufficient room in the body of the bill of lading to list all the ultimate destinations, please follow these guidelines.
- Take a photo copy of each orders' packing list.
- Place the copiees in an envelope.
- Attach the envelope to the carriers copy of the bill of lading.
- Place a carrier pro sticker or write the carrier pro# on the attached envelope.
- List all PO#'s, WO#'s, or RO#'s in the body of the bill of lading.
Material Labeling
* Do not mix orders with different destinations together on one shrink wrapped pallet.
- Each individual piece on an order needs to be marked with the following:
