UPRR's Mineral Lease Program

The Union Pacific Railroad Company has vast mineral holdings throughout its 23-state region. We have an active mineral lease program and are anxious to explore opportunities to lease these minerals to entities interested in developing the minerals. The railroad company itself does not actively develop the minerals. Our mineral rights are not for sale, but we are interested in leasing them, and we generally do not waive any rights we have to use the surface for exploration or production.

Unfortunately we are not able to provide research for you concerning our mineral ownership. If you are requesting this type of information, you may wish to contact a title insurance company or an attorney to provide you with any necessary research or opinions you may desire.

Information Required to Obtain a Mineral Lease

If you would like to lease minerals from us please provide the following information in writing (we are not able to receive lease applications over the phone):

  • Your name, address and phone number
  • The exact legal name of the entity that would execute the lease
  • The legal status of the entity executing the lease
  • A legal description sufficient for recording purposes
  • If possible, a copy of the granting document where we acquired the minerals
  • The terms of your offer
  • A map of the general area upon which you've outlined the proposed lease area

Whom to Contact for More Information

We have retained the services of an expert in this field to manage our mineral assets, and communications concerning minerals are handled through them. Railroad personnel are not able to answer any questions concerning the railroad's mineral interests. If you wish to contact our mineral specialist, the address, phone, fax and e-mail information is as follows:
