Union Pacific Increasing Train Speed on Rail Line Through Beaumont, Texas
Omaha, Neb., February 23, 2005 Union Pacific Railroad has begun to increase the speed of its trains to 60 mph on the rail line operating through western Beaumont, Texas.
Train speeds will be increased five miles per hour each week until the new speed limit is reached on March 13. Trains operated through this portion of Beaumont between Major Drive and Langham Road at 40 mph because of track and operating constraints. Recent track improvements permitted higher speeds.
Union Pacific has raised train speeds through several communities following necessary highway/railroad grade crossing signal modifications and has found that not only do the trains operate more efficiently, but also motorists are not stopped at the crossings as long.
