New Regional Structure Announced

Union Pacific to Improve Focus on Community and Governmental Relations

Omaha, Neb., August 02, 2007 – Union Pacific today announced a new regional public affairs organization that will place more resources in the states and communities in which North America’s largest railroad operates.  The regional public affairs offices will be collocated with the company’s existing three operating regions and will have responsibility for community relations, state government relations, public relations, public partnerships and philanthropic programs.

"Our relationship with the communities where we operate is changing as our business and these communities grow," said Bob Turner, Union Pacific’s senior vice president of corporate relations.  "This new structure will give UP more representation at a local level to work with communities as well as state government to help work productively together in the future."

The company announced that Joe Adams, Joe Bateman and Scott Moore are elected vice presidents of public affairs for the Southern, Northern and Western regions, respectively.

Adams, who is based in Spring, Texas, joined UP in 1978 as an assistant general attorney.  Most recently, Adams was the Chairman’s Special Representative for Texas. Before joining the railroad, Adams served in the Nixon and Ford administrations at the Civil Aeronautics Board, the White House and the U.S. Treasury Department. Adams is a graduate of Brown University and Stanford Law School.

Bateman, who is based in Omaha, joined UP in 1984 as director, government affairs. He has served as the senior assistant vice president - government affairs since 1988.  Prior to joining UP, Bateman was the director, public affairs for Norfolk Southern Corporation.  Bateman received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia.

Moore, who will be based in Roseville, Calif., joined UP in 2000 as director, government affairs.  He was named assistant vice president and general manager, public partnerships in April, 2004. Prior to joining UP, Moore was Nebraska’s Secretary of State.  Moore earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
