Union Pacific Announces Management Appointments
Omaha, Neb., August 21, 2006 Union Pacific Railroad today announced several management changes in its Marketing and Sales Department.
Ed Sims has been appointed vice president-commercial strategy. In his new position, Sims will lead a cross-functional effort to refine Union Pacific’s manifest strategy, with a focus on business processes that align demand with capacity. Sims joined Union Pacific in 1983 and most recently was vice president and general manager-chemicals. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Emory and an MBA from the University of Arkansas.
Diane Duren has been named vice president and general manager-chemicals, replacing Sims. Duren began her career at Union Pacific in the Finance Department in 1985 and moved to Marketing and Sales in 1991, where she has held a variety of positions in the chemicals and agricultural products teams. For the last eight years, Duren has served as vice president and general manager-agricultural products. She is a graduate of Creighton University with a degree in business administration and a major in accounting.
Paul Hammes replaces Duren as vice president and general manager-agricultural products. Hammes joined Union Pacific in 2003 as assistant vice president-grain products. Prior to joining Union Pacific, Hammes was an assistant vice president for Cargill in the grain division. He holds a degree in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Bob Worrell has been promoted to senior assistant vice president-chemicals with responsibility for the chemical field sales group. Worrell joined Union Pacific in 1978 as a management trainee and went on to hold management positions in intermodal, agricultural products, finance and strategic planning. He is a graduate of Denver University with a degree in English.
Beth Whited has been appointed assistant vice president and general manager of Union Pacific Distribution Services (UPDS). In her new position, Whited is responsible for UPDS’s comprehensive rail management, third-party intermodal services, carrier services and rail-to-truck transloads. Whited began her career at Union Pacific in 1987 and has held positions in corporate finance, accounting and investor relations. She most recently was assistant vice president automotive-General Motors. Whited is a graduate of the University of Iowa, where she received a degree in business administration.
Sam Calabro replaces Whited as assistant vice president automotive-General Motors. An 18-year veteran with Union Pacific, Calabro’s most recent position was senior business director-chemicals. He also has served as senior business director-agriculture. Calabro holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Thomas Gehl has been appointed senior assistant vice president-Marketing and Sales Operations. He is responsible for several marketing support functions, as well as damage prevention efforts at UP’s Market Development and Sales Center. In his prior position, Gehl was assistant vice president automotive-Ford. During his more than 25 years with the railroad, Gehl has working in various management positions in the intermodal, chemicals, agricultural products and automotive business groups. He has also held positions in executive administration and field sales at the railroad. Gehl earned a bachelor’s degree at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa and a master’s degree in industrial administrative sciences from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
Replacing Gehl as assistant vice president automotive-Ford is Kenny Rocker. He joined Union Pacific in September 1994 and has held a number of director positions in logistics and sales, including his most recent position as senior business director-chemicals. Rocker has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Tuskegee University.
