Union Pacific Names James Barnes Director for Media Information

Omaha, Neb., January 24, 2006 – Union Pacific has named James Barnes as director media information.

He will serve as company spokesperson and is responsible for program development, management of media relations and supporting integrated communications programs throughout the Union Pacific organization with special emphasis on the company’s safety, technology and environmental initiatives.

Prior to joining Union Pacific, Barnes was an e-Inclusion Executive and senior public relations manager with HP in Houston. He has also held positions of increasing responsibility with Compaq Computer Corporation, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Florida and AT&T during his 15-year career in public relations and corporate communications.

In 1987, Barnes completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Journalism from Anderson University in Indiana where he worked as a sports reporter for The Herald Bulletin. In 1989, Barnes earned a Master of Science degree in Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
