John Rourke Named Superintendent-Transportation Services of Union Pacific Railroad's Council Bluffs Service Unit
Omaha, Neb., May 3, 2005 Union Pacific Railroad has named John Rourke superintendent-transportation services of its Council Bluffs Service Unit. Rourke replaces Mike Ring who retired after 32 years of service.
As superintendent-transportation services, Rourke is responsible for the day-to-day and safe operation of an average 80 trains a day over more than 500 miles of track across central Iowa and eastern Nebraska. The Council Bluffs Service Unit reports to the Northern Region vice president in Omaha, Neb.
Rourke, 57, started his railroad career with the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1979 and has held a variety of positions in the Operating Department including engineer, train dispatcher and director of transportation services.
Union Pacific and Southern Pacific merged in 1996. Prior to being named superintendent-transportation services of the Council Bluffs Service Unit, Rourke held the position of superintendent–coal operations in South Morrill, Neb.
Rourke has a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo.
