Union Pacific Railroad Museum Launches New Website

Additional Content and New Layout Serves Broader Audience as Union Pacific’s 150th Anniversary Approaches

Council Bluffs, Iowa, September 07, 2011 – The Union Pacific Railroad Museum website has a bold new design that incorporates fresh content, picture slide shows and easy-to-find information.  The site better serves a broader audience, including rail fans, history enthusiasts, teachers, and students of all ages interested in Union Pacific Railroad history and how the railroad helped shape America.

"The new website is dynamic and quickly captures viewers' interests, with the ultimate goal to have them visit the museum," said Beth Lindquist, director – Union Pacific Railroad Museum.  "There are several new website features that will showcase our exhibits as well as the Union Pacific Historical Collection."

Easier to Use

The website, www.uprrmuseum.org, is organized to provide clear and direct access to material.  Guests will be able to see the museum's daily offerings through the "Exhibit" section.  The "Activities & Events" section includes a calendar with upcoming events as well as information for those looking to book a group tour, be it for a school, scouting troop or adults.  In the "Join Us" section, viewers will find ways to help keep the Union Pacific Railroad Museum operating by becoming a member or volunteer.

New to the museum site is "Curator's Corner."  Viewers can learn more about an artifact in the Union Pacific Historical Collection.  At different times throughout each month, the website will feature a "mystery object" for which viewers can make guesses about what the artifact is or does.  The "Curator's Corner" also will feature posts from visitors commenting about their experience at the Union Pacific Railroad Museum.

In the near future, fans and friends also will be able to follow updates and events at the museum through Facebook and Twitter.

The Union Pacific Railroad Museum, located at 200 Pearl St. Council Bluffs, Iowa, is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.  Admission is free.  The museum is closed Sunday and Monday.  Please visit www.uprrmuseum.org or call 712-329-8307 for further information.

About the Union Pacific Railroad Museum

Visitors to the Union pacific Railroad Museum journey through more than 150 years of American history while viewing one of the oldest corporate collections in the nation. Housed in an historic Carnegie Library building in Council Bluffs, Iowa, visitors discover an extensive compilation of artifacts, photographs, documents and equipment from one of our nation's most ambitious endeavors - constructing the transcontinental railroad and settling the West, simultaneously chronicled in museum exhibits. Among the most popular museum exhibits are the transcontinental railroad's construction; "America Travels by Rail," which celebrates the height of passenger travel; the Lincoln Collection, featuring artifacts from President Abraham Lincoln's rail car and funeral; and the technology and innovation that sustain Union Pacific as a railroad industry leader. The Union Pacific Railroad Museum also promotes a sense of connectedness shared by generations of people whose personal and family histories have been touched by the railroad.
