Dunsmuir, Calif., Awarded Membership in Union Pacific's Train Town USA Registry
Dunsmuir, Calif., August 06, 2012 The city of Dunsmuir today was awarded membership in Union Pacific's Train Town USA Registry as part of the railroad's year-long 150th anniversary celebration. City officials in Dunsmuir received an official Train Town USA resolution signed by Union Pacific Chairman Jim Young, making Dunsmuir an official part of Union Pacific's 150th anniversary celebration across its 23-state network.
"The city of Dunsmuir has had a unique connection to the railroad since the 1880s," said Liisa Stark, Union Pacific director - Public Affairs for Northern California. "While today we celebrate our historical connection, Union Pacific looks forward to playing an integral part in Dunsmuir's future."
Today's Train Town USA presentation was made with city officials in attendance and was a fitting tribute to the historic importance of railroads in the city of Dunsmuir and the Northern California region. Union Pacific has invested $1.5 billion in California since 2007, and with more than 4,700 employees and more than 3,200 miles of track in the state today Union Pacific plays a significant role in the economy much as it was a major part of the founding and early growth of the city of Dunsmuir.
