Union Pacific Foundation Grants $171,600 to Support the Principals' Partnership and Other Washington Charitable Organizations

Omaha, Neb., July 15, 2010 – The Union Pacific Foundation is granting $171,600 to continue funding The Principals' Partnership and several projects submitted by nonprofit organizations in Washington.

The Principals' Partnership, the signature giving program of the Union Pacific Foundation, will continue to serve as a professional resource to 38 public high school principals in Washington. This is the sixth year the program has been in Washington. Additionally, the foundation is providing grants to 16 nonprofit organizations in the state.

Earlier this year, the National Governors Association (NGA) honored The Principals' Partnership with its annual Public-Private Partnership award in education.

"We are extremely proud to have The Principals' Partnership recognized by the NGA," said Robert W. Turner, Union Pacific senior vice president for corporate relations and Union Pacific Foundation president. "High school principals play a vital role in our nation's education system and shaping the future of our youth. Providing principals with resources to meet their leadership needs and professional growth objectives helps them make positive changes in their schools, and it provides us a way to connect to the communities we serve."

The Principals' Partnership assists approximately 1,000 principals with responsibilities for more than one million students. The program helps fulfill principals' leadership needs through a number of opportunities, including research, networking and workshops. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, The Principals' Partnership starts with the professional needs of each principal and offers an individually customized program to meet those needs. The program is offered at no cost to the school, the district or the principal.

Union Pacific funds The Principals' Partnership programs in communities in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

The Union Pacific Foundation has a 50-year tradition of supporting community and civic programs. Grants to nonprofit organizations support community, cultural and health and human services.
