Union Pacific Employees Capture Omaha's Corporate "Yellow Jersey"

UP's Team Peddles 9,224 Miles for a Good Cause

Omaha, Neb., August 28, 2008 – A 348-member team of Union Pacific Railroad employees, their families and contractors peddled 9,224 miles to capture first place in Omaha's Corporate Cycling Challenge – Corporate Division, surpassing the second place corporate division team by nearly 2,200 miles.  The railroad team has come in first place in the corporate division three out of the last four years.

"I am proud of how many of our employees, their families and our friends joined us for a worthwhile and health promoting event like the Cycling Challenge," said Barb Schaefer, senior vice president – human resources. "It is fabulous that the team shattered their goal of 8,000 miles by nearly 1,300 miles."

This was the 18th year for the Corporate Cycling Challenge, held on Sunday, August 17, that includes three different cycling tours of 10, 25 and 42 miles long. Proceeds from the Cycling Challenge are donated to the Eastern Nebraska Trail Network.
