The Union Pacific Employee Club Friend To Friend Network

In November the Friend To Friend Network helped 51 railroad families in need across the system. For the year, the Friend To Friend Network has helped 782 railroad families from across the system and suffered health or dwelling related emergencies. In these tough economic times these personal tragedies hit particularly hard and the continued donations of the 3,259 employees that donate to Friend To Friend through payroll deduction and the thousands more that support fundraisers or make direct contributions are greatly appreciated.

There are many charities to choose from, particularly at this time of year, so remember that when you give to the Friend To Friend Network it is railroad families helping other railroad families and:

1. Your contribution is 100% tax deductible
2. Your donation goes to active and retired railroad families like yours in their time of need and
3. 100% of your donations go directly to the families in need because all administrative costs are covered by volunteers or through sponsorship from the Union Pacific Railroad.

The Union Pacific Employee Club is sponsoring a UPEC Friend To Friend Win-A-Trip-To-Convention Challenge. Clubs will be soliciting checks in the amount of $24 or more and monthly payroll deductions in the amount of $2 or more across the system. Remember, anyone can donate to Friend To Friend - it is 100% tax deductible. Only active employees can sign up for payroll deduction.

This challenge will run through January 31, 2009, and every complete sheet of sign-ups that is submitted will be entered in a drawing. In February, one complete sign-up sheet will be drawn and one person that signed up on that sheet as well as the Club that solicited that sheet will each be awarded a complete convention package (Transportation, lodging and meals for two) to the Reno Convention in August 2009.

Our total donations received through payroll deductions hit another major milestone in November passing $23,000 per month on November 7, 2008, as a result of contributions solicited by Houston Locomotive Ambassador Avery Canady.

The growth in payroll deduction and fundraiser donations that help us assist these families is largely the result of the fundraising efforts of our Friend To Friend Ambassadors.

Friend To Friend Ambassadors have three major roles:

1. Educate their fellow employees concerning the Friend To Friend Network,
2. Solicit payroll deductions and help to organize fundraisers and
3. Identify their fellow employees in need.

There still is a great need for Ambassadors in all states and departments. If you are interested in learning more about becoming an Ambassador please contact the Network Committee:
