83rd Annual Convention - Club Recognition

Various Union Pacific Employee Clubs were recently recognized at the 83rd annual Union Pacific Clubs (UPEC) convention at the Doubletree Hotel in Seattle, WA.

During 2007-08, local Union Pacific Employee Clubs collectively raised $150,000 for charities throughout the UP system. Members donated 106,319 hours of their time, drove more than 244,511 miles and donated $148,973 of their own funds to perform community service projects. In addition, 116 Employee Club member volunteers gave 3,910 presentations reaching over 108,000 attendees and staffed more than 170 booths spreading the Operation Lifesaver message to an audience of more than 150,000 people.

The annual Charity Auction raised a record $7,550 which was distributed evenly between Seattle area charities at Fort Lewis, the Hutch School and Childhaven in addition to the Friend To Friend Network.

Awards presented and Employee Clubs recognized include the following:

  • Membership Per Capita, presented to the clubs with the largest percentage increase in number of club members based on membership numbers in the beginning of the year:
    • 1st Place - Club # 63 El Paso, TX

  • Membership Increase, presented to the clubs with the largest straight number increase, regardless of club size in the beginning of the year:

  • LBA Award, in honor of Lyle B. Ackerst, awarded to clubs for the most creative and effective hand-drawn poster promoting the club’s events:

    • 2nd Place - Club # 54 N. Little Rock, AR
    • 3rd Place - Club # 66 San Antonio, TX
  • MAC Award, in honor of "Mac" McMillan, a former committee president who recognizes clubs with the most creative and effective computer-generated poster promoting the club’s events:

    • 3rd Place - Clubs # 38 & 83 Sparks, NV & Portola, NV
  • O/L Volunteer Presenter of the Year, an award presented to individual club members giving the most Operation Lifesaver presentations:

  • O/L Club Recognition Award, presented to the clubs that make the greatest effort to promote Operation Lifesaver:
