82nd Annual Convention - Club Recognition
Various Union Pacific Employee Clubs were recently recognized at the 82nd annual Union Pacific Clubs (UPEC) convention on Aug. 9 at Harrah’s in Council Bluffs.
During 2005-06, local Union Pacific Employee Clubs collectively raised $188,000 for charities throughout the UP system. Members donated 169,000 hours of their time, drove more than 336,000 miles and donated $110,000 of their own funds to perform community service projects.
Awards presented and Employee Clubs recognized during the awards luncheon include the following:
- Membership Per Capita, presented to the clubs with the largest percentage increase in number of club members based on membership numbers in the beginning of the year:
- First Place – Club No. 77, Adams, Wis.
- Second Place – Club No. 2, Denver, Colo.
- Third Place (tie) – Club No. 65, Alexandria, La., and Club No. 79, South Morrill, Neb.
- Membership Increase, presented to the clubs with the largest straight number increase, regardless of club size in the beginning of the year:
- First Place – Club No. 76, Boone, Iowa
- Second Place – Club No. 2, Denver, Colo.
- Third Place – Club No. 77, Adams, Wis.
- LBA Award, in honor of Lyle B. Ackerst, awarded to clubs for the most creative and effective hand-drawn poster promoting the club’s events:
- First Place – Club No. 54, North Little Rock, Ark.
- Second Place – Club No. 30, The Dalles, Ore.
- Third Place – Club No. 3, Omaha, Neb.
- MAC Award, in honor of "Mac" McMillan, a former committee president who recognizes clubs with the most creative and effective computer-generated poster promoting the club’s events:
- First Place – Club No. 19, Herrington, Ore.
- Second Place – Club No. 1, Cheyenne, Wyo.
- Third Place – Club No. 32, Salina, Kan.
- O/L Presenter of the Year, an award presented to individual club members giving the most Operation Lifesaver presentations:
- First Place – Don Heddinger, Club No. 78, Fort Dodge/Eagle Grove, Iowa
- Second Place – Pam Fogle, Club No. 61, Council Bluffs, Iowa
- Third Place – Doug Farler, Club No. 74, Tucson, Ariz.
- O/L Club Recognition Award, presented to the clubs that make the greatest effort to promote Operation Lifesaver:
- First Place – Club No. 54, North Little Rock, Ark.
- Second Place – Club No. 78, Fort Dodge/Eagle Grove, Iowa
- Third Place – Club No. 12, Salt Lake City, Utah
- Charity Award-Total, presented to the clubs that raised the most money through club events and donated it to the club’s local charity or the Friend-to-Friend Network:
- First Place – Club No. 54, North Little Rock, Ark.
- Second Place – Club No. 3, Omaha, Neb.
- Third Place – Club No. 77, Adams, Wis.
- Charity Award-Per Capita, presented to the clubs that raised the most money for charity, divided by the number of club members:
- First Place – Club No. 78, Fort Dodge/Eagle Grove, Iowa
- Second Place – Club No. 77, Adams, Wis.
- Third Place – Club No. 71, Milwaukee, Wis.
- Most Outstanding Activity, award presented to the clubs with the best community service event based upon the impact it has on the community:
- First Place – Club No. 3, Omaha, Neb. – Delivered 300 teddy bears to Omaha’s Children’s Hospital and Lakeside Hospital for children who will be undergoing surgery.
- Second Place – Club No. 61, Council Bluffs, Iowa – Performed instrumental roles in the re-opening event of the Union Pacific Railroad Museum’s exhibit "Working on the Railroad."
- Third Place – Club No. 54, North Little Rock, Ark. – Provided food to Hurricane Katrina victims who were left homeless following the storm.
- Community Service, presented to the clubs with the most hours, miles driven and money people have paid out of their own pocket to do community service:
- First Place – Club No. 61, Council Bluffs, Iowa
- Second Place – Club No. 54, North Little Rock, Ark.
- Third Place – Club No. 4, Kansas City, Kan.
