Participant Expectations
Union Pacific Employee Mentor Program Requirements
- Establish relationships that are based on candid communication - respectful of each person's opinions
- Serve as a member of committees or participate in special projects (committees include: activities, college/career planning, finance, internship, publicity, web site)
- Serve as a positive role model
- Provide academic guidance (this may involve enlisting the help of others)
- Attend events at the high school
- Attend DREAM monthly meetings
- Participate in as many group activities as possible
- Ensure students know about group activities
- Assist in the planning of activities during the year
- Provide exposure to job site and career choices
- Maintain open communication with students' families
- Recruit co-workers at mentor/membership drives or on personal basis
- Contact school personnel if problems, questions, or concerns arise
Students Program Requirements:

- Follow through with contacts and communicate via e-mail, Web site, and/or DREAM hotline
- Attend all meetings of DREAM students
- Participate in at least 75% of the group activities (other than social/fun)
- Assist in the planning of activities during the year
- Contact school personnel if problems, questions, or concerns arise
- Provide feedback throughout the year to help improve the program
- Evaluate the program
Parents:
- Support the program by encouraging student participation
- Review correspondence and provide replies when required
- Attend scheduled meetings and activities
- Contact the DREAM Officers or school personnel if problems, questions, or concerns arise
- Evaluate the program
High School Coordinators:
- Recruit, interview, and aid in selection of students
- Serve as a liaison for students and parents
- Organize and provide training
- Assist with coordination of group activities
- Ensure students know about group activities and meetings
- Participate in DREAM monthly meetings and activities
- Evaluate the program
- Contact DREAM personnel if problems, questions, or concerns arise
