Mileage for Commonly Used Routes

To facilitate customer implementation of the Carload Based Mileage Fuel Surcharge, a list of mileages by Origin - Route - Destination is available. This is an unique listing of the most commonly used revenue routes for UP issued tariffs/circulars that are being converted to a mileage based fuel surcharge.

A customer can select either an Excel spreadsheet file or a CSV (comma separated value) text file which can be imported and utilized by customers.  The data contents include:

Effective April 26, 2007 through September 30, 2007

Mileages provided are sourced from ALK Technologies' PC*Miler/Rail Version 13 product using the shortest route with non-familized, interactive, and include options.  In the event of a conflict, the source PC*Miler mileages will apply.

Effective October 1, 2007

The new PC*Miler Rail Fuel Surcharge router (FNII) will be used to calculate fuel surcharge mileage. This new software version simplifies customer usage as the new rail "Fuel Surcharge" mileage router calculates miles for local moves and total miles for interline shipments.
