The YW operates freight service from Yreka to a connection with UP (via CORP) at Montague, CA --- 8.86 miles. Traffic includes wood chips, forest products and propane. A passenger excursion train, “Blue Goose”, started service in 1986, but has not run in 2003/2004.
History
The Yreka Railroad was incorporated May 28, 1888, and opened January 9, 1889. The Yreka Western Railroad was incorporated August 24, 1933, to acquire the property of the Yreka Railroad, and operations started on April 18, 1935. Regular passenger service ended in the late 1920s. Since January 31, 2000, operations have been provided by Colorado Central Railroad Company.
