Generating a Bill of Lading

Specify the Details About How UP Should Deliver Your Rail Car

Your shipping instructions are transmitted online using the Bill of Lading Submission application. (This application is not available to customers with a conditional User ID.)

Your completed bill of lading:

  • Tells Union Pacific who the shipper is.
  • Tells Union Pacific where to send the rail car (receiver).
  • Tells Union Pacific where to send the freight bill (payor of freight).
  • Tells what commodity, by STCC, is being shipped.
  • Tells the rate authority. Find the public rates at Web Price & Transit Inquiry.
  • Tells the proper routing of the rail car from origin to destination. To learn more about routing options, visit Interline Routing Agreements.

After you submit the bill of lading, check your acknowledgments to view the status of the submitted bill.
