Step 2: Making a Deal

Now that you have decided to ship with Union Pacific, you are ready for Step 2.

"Making a Deal" covers the process of declaring your intent to ship, determining how to pay, learning rail car loading instructions and other topics. At the end of this step you will be able to make an agreement with Union Pacific to move freight.

Create the Contractual Agreement to Ship With UP

  • Contacting Your UP Representative
  • Discuss with your UP representative the necessary Track Agreement(s), moving on a rate, payment options, loading preparations and demurrage
  • Establishing Credit
  • Fill out and submit a credit application. Customers who have not established credit must pay for shipments prior to delivery.
  • Register as a UP Customer
  • Become an official UP customer so you may make use of your UP customer benefits
