New Overload Billing Policy
Effective September 1, 2011
Effective September 1, 2011, Union Pacific Railroad will change the overload billing policy in Freight Tariff UP 6004.
Today, after a rail car is weighed and identified as exceeding the allowable weight on our system, customers can incur multiple overload, weigh and demurrage charges. In an effort to streamline the billing process, Union Pacific is amending the overload tariff item 8000 of Freight Tariff UP 6004 to provide customers with one simplified, comprehensive bill for overload shipments.
The current charges will now be combined into a single overload fee of $1,300. This fee will include all charges associated with an overload shipment and subsequent resolution, including weighing fees after weight reduction, charges per day for existing overloads, as well as the costs to re-weigh a car to validate an overload, per the customer's request.
Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring the safe and efficient transport of your shipments.
If you have any questions concerning this tariff amendment, please contact the Union Pacific accessorial team at 1-800-243-0890.
