Union Pacific's powerful Intermodal franchise offers unmatched service to and from Mexico. Utilizing a fleet of nearly 60,000 rail containers, Union Pacific serves several major gateways through three intermodal shipping programs--Border, TransBorder and Passport. The variety of available services, reliability of the EMP and UMAX programs and experience of the Union Pacific Intermodal Mexico team ensures each customer has an efficient and comprehensive transportation program to fit their needs.
Three Ways In and Out of Mexico
1. Border Service
Union Pacific's Border Service is service to and from the U.S./Mexico border. EMP and UMAX programs provide expanded access to markets across North America, utilizing four Union Pacific border gateways: El Paso, Laredo and Rio Valley, TX; plus Tucson, AZ. Intermodal Marketing Companies (IMCs) monitor the Customs clearance process at the border, eliminating the need for customers to do so and making the Customs process simple and efficient.
2. TransBorder
TransBorder is an all-rail, seamless option, offering Intermodal service between the U.S. and Canada and major Mexican markets through collaboration with Kansas City Southern Mexico. With TransBorder, shipments do not stop at the border for Customs clearance. Instead, they travel in-bond, clearing Customs at interior Mexican origins and destinations. TransBorder offers a through-rate structure that provides customers the convenience of a single price and a single bill for their ramp-to-ramp shipments to and from Mexico.
3. Passport
Passport is a seamless, rail-truck, ramp-to-door/door-to-ramp delivery option to and from more than 100 Mexican locations via the Laredo, TX and Nogales, AZ gateways. With extensive coverage throughout Mexico, Passport shipments clear Customs at the border.
