Product Service Requirements
- Customers must have credit with Union Pacific. If no credit is established, shipments must be paid on a cash-only basis. To establish credit, please complete the credit application (PDF File) and return it to UPRR, or contact your Union Pacific Representative for additional information.
- Customers must have access to chassis at origin and destination. UP does not supply chassis for international shipments.
- Customers must arrange for drayage at origin and destination. The drayage company must have a valid Uniform Intermodal Interchange Agreement (UIIA) with the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA).
- Customers must adhere to regulations in MITA2.
- Customers with restricted commodities require Specific Commodity Quotes (SCQ) , and in some cases, approval from Union Pacific's Damage Prevention team.
Shipping In-bond
- Storage: Effective May 1, 2001, in-bond shipments in containers held on railroad premises for U.S. Customs Clearance will be allowed 72 hours free-time from the first 11:59 PM after notification.
- Use of UP's bond: Nearly all in-bond international containerized shipments on Union Pacific move under a non-UP bond. In very few instances, use of UP's bond is allowed. In those cases, prior arrangements with a UP representative must be made and paid for.
Rate Applications
- Standard Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates issued by Union Pacific apply on:
1. Shipments moving in standard, dry cargo containers; and
2. Accepted commodities that are not restricted by MITA2. - Other equipment types (i.e. flatracks, ISO tanks, open-top containers, etc.) utilize rates in published circulars, or require Special Commodity Quotes and may require approval prior to movement.
