Shipment Boxes
Containers - Union Pacific owns and manages over 27,000 48', 53 & 53' Hi-Cube EMP containers and 3,850 STAX 53' Hi-cube containers. Specifications are much like conventional FTL trailers. A container is specially designed to be picked up and placed on rail cars and chassis. EMP Containers are some of the newest in the industry. Our rigorous inspection process ensures you get a high quality container for your shipment. Private Containers - Most private containers are 20' & 40' Ocean Carrier boxes.
Chassis - Chassis come in a variety of sizes to fit individual sized containers. EMP chassis are heavy duty units equipped with self inflating tires for unexpected hazards. 20' & 40' chassis are managed by the Ocean Carriers and used exclusively for their containers.
Private Trailers - Union Pacific moves private trailers from 28' through 53' including refrigerated units. We have flat cars specifically designed to accept these units.
Flat Cars
Articulated Wells - The well style allows containers to be situated lower so that those stacked on top will have better clearance (doublestack). The articulated version has 3 to 5 separate flats permanently joined to form one unit which can carry up to 12 containers.
Conventional - These flat cars are designed to carry containers or Trailers. These cars are capable of carrying two trailers up to 40 feet in length. Doublestacking is not possible with these units.
Spine - Spine cars provide the same capabilities as Conventional cars with less weight, which means more fuel economy for the railroad.
Terminal Equipment
Lifts, Cranes & Packers - There are a variety of equipment our terminal operators utilize to move your equipment.
Hostlers - This unit is simply a truck tractor designed for managing containers and trailers within the terminal confines.
