General Overview

Commonwealth markets coal from mines in the United States and South American to utilities, steel mills and industrial customers in the U.S., Europe and the Far East.

In the western U.S., Commonwealth markets coal produced by Lodestar Energy, Inc. at the Horizon and Whisky Creek mines, both located in Carbon County, Utah and at the McClane Canyon mine in Garfield County, Colorado. These coals are shipped to electric utilities in the Midwest and West, to Japanese utilities and to domestic cement and chemical plants. These mines produce low-sulfur bituminous coal which has heating value among the highest of any coals produced in the Western United States.
