- When damage exceeds $5,000.
- When salvage needs to be rejected to the carrier.
- When damages are the result of defective equipment.
- When repetitive loss or damage occurs which you feel corrective action is required.

Union Pacific does not require notification on routine product loss or damage in most circumstances. Destination records, including unloading reports, delivery receipts and photographs, will serve as sufficient proof of loss or damage on any claim filed. This policy represents a waiver of our right to inspect the goods and guarantees that any claim filed will not be denied because of a lack of notification.
