Nebraska
Main Corridors and Connections

Nebraska is a state of railroad superlatives. Selected as the beginning point of the first transcontinental railroad, Omaha is headquarters for Union Pacific. Omaha is also the location of the Harriman Dispatching Center, one of the largest and most technologically advanced dispatching facilities in the country.
North Platte is the location of Bailey Yard, the world's largest rail freight classification yard. Still expanding, the yard covers 2,850 acres and switches 10,000 rail cars daily. There are 315 miles of track within the yard limits. Bailey Yard is also the site of a major locomotive servicing and repair facility.
Union Pacific's main line in central Nebraska is the busiest rail freight corridor in the nation, with more than 135 trains operating over the line every 24 hours. The heavy traffic is a wide mix of nearly every commodity, but coal bound from Wyoming to southern and eastern power plants, as well as transcontinental business, dominates. Of growing importance is a corridor crossing the state from northwest to southeast, carrying traffic through the Kansas City gateway. All trains pass through North Platte, where cars can make connections to a wide variety of destinations across the United States.
The primary commodity originated in Nebraska is grain. Three of Union Pacific's top customers there are Archer Daniels Midland, Cargill and Agrex.
